Cognitive sequelae of severe head injury in relation to the Glasgow Outcome Scale.

چکیده
Aspects of reliability and validity of the Glasgow Outcome Scale were studied by examining outcome scale categories and cognitive test scores in 57 patients with severe closed head injury seen within 2 years of injury. Inter-rater reliability of a three and six point scale was high. The three point scale, unlike the six point, showed a significant statistical association with cognitive test scores. The relationship between test score and outcome category was accurate within the first 3 months of injury, but considerably less so thereafter.

The correlation between blood leukocyte count and the level of consciousness in head injured patients
This study was performed to define the correlation between the level of consciousness based on Glasgow coma scale ( GCS), Glasgow outcome scale( GOS) and leukocyte count. Two hundred and thirty three patients ( female: 48, male: 185) ranged between 1-75 years old were studied. The results showed that there was a negative correlation between increasing leukocyte count and GCS ( n=233.r= .0.3, p...
متن کاملCognitive sequelae in relationship to early indices of severity of brain damage after severe blunt head injury.
A group of 89 severely head injured patients was tested psychologically within two years of injury, and test performance was related to indices of brain damage. Duration of coma (Glasgow Coma Scale) bore little relationship to later cognitive outcome but duration of post-traumatic amnesia significantly predicted cognitive performance. Patients with an operated haematoma performed better than no...
متن کاملEmotional and cognitive consequences of head injury in relation to the glasgow outcome scale.
OBJECTIVE There is current debate over the issue of the best way of assessing outcome after head injury. One criticism of scales of disability and handicap such as the Glasgow outcome scale (GOS) is that they fail to capture the subjective perspective of the person with head injury. The aims of the study were to investigate aspects of the validity of structured interviews for the GOS, and addre...
